Breather Valve cum Flame Arrester is a combined tank-protection device designed to provide controlled pressure / vacuum breathing while also preventing flame propagation through the vent line.
The breather section uses pressure and vacuum pallets with weight-loaded or spring-loaded operation to protect the tank from excessive internal pressure or vacuum. The integrated flame-arrester section uses a crimped ribbon or bird-mesh element to help stop flame from travelling toward the protected tank.
Available in carbon steel, stainless steel and PTFE-coated body options, with multiple sizes and connection types, the unit is suitable for flammable-liquid, fuel, solvent and chemical storage applications requiring both tank breathing and flame protection.
How it works
Working Principle
The breather-valve section opens for controlled pressure or vacuum relief, while the metallic arrester element provides a heat-absorbing path intended to stop a flame front propagating through the vent connection.

Tank breathes
Pressure or vacuum created by tank operation lifts the corresponding weighted element for controlled venting or air intake.

Vapour crosses the element
Normal vapour passes through the flame-arrester channels between the tank and atmosphere.

Flame is quenched
If a flame reaches the unit, the SS316 element absorbs heat and interrupts propagation toward the protected tank side.
