Overview

Product Description

Flow Switches are designed to monitor the presence or absence of liquid flow in pipelines and provide a switching signal for alarm, pump protection, interlocking or control applications.

A paddle or vane installed in the flow stream operates the internal microswitch when the flow reaches the set point. The switching point can be adjusted using the set-point screw, while interchangeable paddles allow the same flow switch to be adapted for different pipeline sizes.

Available with weatherproof or flameproof enclosures and multiple process connection options, the Flow Switch is suitable for industrial cooling water, utility lines, process pipelines and equipment protection applications.

How it works

Working Principle

Pipeline flow acts on a paddle positioned in the liquid stream. When the flow force reaches the adjusted set point, the paddle movement operates the internal microswitch and changes the contact state.

01

Flow reaches the paddle

The clear process liquid passes the insertion paddle installed through the selected process connection.

02

Set point is reached

Increasing flow displaces the paddle against the adjustable mechanism at the configured switching point.

03

Control contact changes

The SPDT or DPDT microswitch changes state to provide an alarm, pump interlock or control action.

Questions & Answers

What does the Flow Switch detect?

It detects whether clear-liquid flow has reached the adjusted switching point and changes an electrical contact for alarm or control.

Which switch configurations are available?

The SPDT option is rated 15 A. The DPDT option uses two SPDT switches rated 5 A each.

Which line sizes are covered?

The standard range covers 25 NB to 200 NB, equivalent to 1 inch to 8 inches.

Which enclosure options are available?

Weatherproof and flameproof enclosure options are available according to the installation requirement.

What information is needed for selection?

Provide the liquid, required flow set point, line size, pressure, temperature, process connection, wetted material and enclosure requirement.
