Use this metal weight calculator for steel sheet weight, plate weight, round bar weight, rod weight, square bar weight, flat bar weight, hex bar weight and pipe or tube weight. It is intended for quick fabrication, purchasing, quotation and inventory estimates.
The calculator supports commonly used engineering materials including carbon steel, stainless steel 304, stainless steel 316, aluminium, brass and copper. Density can also be entered manually for a specific alloy or material grade.
Formula and assumptions
Geometric weight is calculated from nominal dimensions and the selected density. Actual mill products can vary because of tolerances, alloy composition and manufacturing condition.

- Use Sheet / plate for rectangular plate blanks and Flat bar for long rectangular stock.

Questions and answers
How is steel weight calculated?
The calculator multiplies the section area by length and material density. For carbon or mild steel it uses a typical density of 7850 kg/m³.
Does the calculator support stainless steel and aluminium?
Yes. Typical densities are included for stainless steel 304, stainless steel 316, aluminium, brass, copper and titanium, with a custom density option.
Can I calculate hex bar weight?
Yes. Enter the hex dimension across flats, length, quantity and material. The regular-hex cross-sectional area is used.
